McKenzie Centre is a leading early intervention centre for children with special needs, aged birth to school age, and their whānau, in Hamilton. We provide a family-centred, play-based, trans-disciplinary service that helps children to realise their potential. About the role
We require an enthusiastic individual, to join our team of Education Support Workers (ESWs). Our trans-disciplinary team includes Speech-Language therapists, Physio and Occupational therapists, Early Intervention teachers, a social worker, Peer Support workers/tuakana, consultant psychologists and ESWs.
This position will require you to support young children with disabilities to promote inclusion and engagement in their early childhood environment and encourage them to achieve their goals.
McKenzie Centre offers a supportive and innovative team environment, and the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of children with special needs and their families. This is a part-time role typically working during the school term in early childhood centres. Days and hours of work will be discussed with the successful candidate.
Skills and experience
You will enjoy working and playing with children to encourage their learning and development. A qualification is not required however any training in Early Childhood Education or experience with children with disabilities will be an advantage. You will have good communication skills, be child and family focussed and able to build effective and cooperative relationships. Empathy and an openness to new ideas is essential. You will also have a current driver’s licence.
